We began breeding Goldens
because we were concerned about the quality of the Goldens that we were seeing.
Many of these dogs were the products of “breeders” who were more concerned
with making a dollar rather than improving the breed.
Our initial breeding was
undertaken with a lot of soul searching and research. It’s a big
responsibility. We believe that you don’t breed a dog just for the sake
of producing puppies. You also don’t breed just any dog. We
believe that your breeding stock has to be healthy, representative of the breed,
and must possess qualities worthy of being passed on. To that end, we
partnered with Karin Klouman and Wally Barr from Kyon Kennels (www.kyonkennels.com)
in
From this breeding we
retained one puppy, Lily, UCh Little Platte Morning Dew. Lily has proven
to be everything that we had hoped for; outstanding disposition, great
conformation and a joy to have around. Lily has been shown in UKC and CKC
conformation events, achieving the title of Show Champion from UKC.
From Cassie's second litter
(3/26/2003), sired by
From Cassie's third and last
litter (12/17/2004), also sired by Bugsey, we kept a very nice looking girl,
Little Platte I'm A Hottie. We call her Starr and she will most definitely
be one. In her first outing on September 25, 2005, she was named Best of
Winners at the FKCA show in
In July 2005 we purchased,
Chrys-haefen She's A Lady (Mackenzie) from Jennifer McAuley of Chrys-haefen
In September 2006 we added
another boy from Chrys-haefen Kennels, Chrys-haefen Rocket Man, aka Rock.
Rock brings some excellent lines to our program and should complement our
girls very well in the future.
Although our numbers are
growing, our commitment to providing quality, healthy Goldens has not wavered.
Gunner, Lily, and Cassie have OFA hip, elbow and cardiac certifications
as well as CERF eye certifications. Starr has her OFA cardiac and CERF eye
clearances. Although no breeder can
guarantee that their puppies won’t have hereditary defects , careful breeding
and screening can certainly reduce the chances of that happening. We also
require that dogs we use for breeding possess the appropriate OFA and CERF
clearances as well.
In May 2005 we moved to a
new home situated on ten wooded acres for the dogs to enjoy. In addition
to the new kennels there is an acre and a half fenced in for the dogs to explore
and enjoy. We are now located at:
